Close. Nets-cash is as close as our Canadian accent will allow.

Hi guys,

I'm just spreading an un-substanciated rumour. This morning a janitor at
my university came into my office. He knows what a big Sens fan I am. He asked
what's all this talk about Redden being traded. I said 'get out ..'. His friend
has a Sens page on the web. his friend is supposedly in the know, His friend
told him that somebody in the organization told him PG is considering an offer
for Redden. My first reaction is no way will PG trade Redden. But I suppose
if the offer high enough ? It would have to be a young player with as much
potential as Redden. You never know .... BTW: this janitor was serious and
insisted he hadn't confused Redden with another D-man. Does Daze have as
much potential as Redden ? (The Daze part is just me speculating who it could
be ... I know Daze's name keeps coming up in trade rumours).

Wherever sports writers get their stuff. They all have contacts, they talk
with each other, they listen to the senators mailing list...

The NHL official guide says it's pronounced *NEHTS-kahrzh*

I saw the highlight again twice on the news. Hard to
say what happened.

It seems thet Alf was in ahead of Yashin, it made sense
to me to try to stuff it in. However, after the goal,
Yashin didn't seem to celebrate at all, he seemed to just
head back to the bench.

It looks like Alf heads in the direction of Yash after
celebrating with the third forward on the ice, but the
replay ended there. Don't know if he caught him, or if
they just went back to the bench.

Hmm... I didn't think much of the thread, but seeing
the replays with the thread in mind, I had another
thought about it.

Nets-cash

Rather ironic in the present day NHL's over inflated salaries, eh?

Looking at the Portland stats got me curious as to how other Sens minor
league players are doing. First I will list where you can find the
Detroit Vipers and Worcester Ice Cats stats.
Detroit - http://www.canoe.ca/StatsHKI/BC-HKI-STAT-DETSTAX-R.html
Worcester - http://canoe3.canoe.ca/StatsHKA/BC-HKA-STAT-WORSTAX-R.html

Of all the players on the Vipers who were considered in training camp,
only Beddoes and Bicanek are doing well, at least in terms of points,
Beddoes having 7 and Bicanek having 4. In 7 games Derek Armstron Phil
Crowe and Jason Zent (Zent only played 4 games) only have a point each,
Crowe having 23 penalty minutes as well.

On Worcestor, the players doing well are Mike Prokopec and Ivan
Ciernek. They each have 5 points in 5 and 6 games respectively. Justin
Hocking has 27 penalty minutes in 6 games.

As you noted in your original post Tom, there were a number of incidents
last year. There are two notable ones that I recall: one was in the
Detroit game at the end of the year and the other was in one of playoff
games with Buffalo. The one in Detroit was very similar to last
night...a two-on-one with Alfie with the puck on the left wing...Yashin
was open, but Alfie shot and did not score...if looks could kill.

I also thought I noted a similar thing in Friday's Jersey game on
Yashin's backhand "pass" to Alfie from behind the net--although it
looked to me like Yashin was trying to spin back to get the puck, not
pass it, but the defenceman took him. MacEachern went to hug Yashin,
while the others went to Alfie. I do not recall seeing the big group
hug, but there may have been one.

I am not sure who to blame for this--probably both--but it could become
a problem. IMO, the captain, or the coach or the GM ought to get this
under control right now.

PG was quoted as saying he wouldn't trade a prospect or youth ... he
better not go back on that statement with Redden !

Took me awhile to get to this one.

In a word--money. Toronto and its performance determine the value of the
Canadian TV contract, which is shared revenue. Winners in big markets
are a key to revenue maximization for a sports league as a whole. That
is part of the reason why the league is not totally against some free
agency. It allows the big market teams to buy winners, which tends to
make them all better off. It makes it hard for the small market teams,
but the large- and medium-markets really do not care about the
small-market teams anyway. The small market teams roles are (1) to be
used as examples of how salaries are driving businesses into the ground
during collective bargaining negotiations and (2) to be used to justify
publicly-subsidized arenas by threatening to move. In the latter case,
it is always helpful to have three or four unfilled markets to give some
credibility to the threat.

  After
> all, Toronto has had a dreadful team for most of the past 30 seasons, and the
> fans still come.

But all teams and the CBC would be better off if Toronto spent some more
money, but Stavro's self-interest is too strong.

Shouldn't the NHL be concerned with the health of other
> franchises, like the Kings (huge market, low attendance after loss of Gretzky),
> the 'Canes (new market, empty arena) or the Islanders (ownership mess)?
>

If it does not take any money out of their pocket, they do not care. The
answer for L.A. is a new rink with better revenue-generating
ability--and maybe new owners with lots of money, maybe in a new city.

The league did not care about the Whalers in Hartford, why care about
the 'Canes?

On the Isle, a fraud attempts to buy the team and it falls through.
Legitimate buyers willing to pay a higher price than the fraudulent
buyer are found.

Zent has only played in four games due to the birth of his daughter.

Actually, I heared a rumour that Redden was going to Calgary for Fleury,
but at first I just snuffed it off.
Now, I'm worring...
